I´m going to be going on the third leg of the Grace in January.  So this site is a good fix for my SALTS obsession that I can´t keep under control!  The virtual tour of the boat was fantastic!

Have a wonderful time on the offshore, I never managed to get to go on one (even had to turn it down once because I was still finishing Uni) but we´ll all be watching the progress of the trip with the new tracking system I´m working on.

Have you sailed on other trips? Got any photos for the Gallery? any good stories?

I have taken a 10 day trip in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland a couple of years ago on a single mast gaff rigger, but other than that I´ve just done a little sailing here and there on yachts.  The reason I know about SALTS is from Glen Kachmar, who is a very close friend.  Have you ever crewed with him in all of your time with SALTS?  

And yes, I plan on taking a lot of photos...I´m a photo geek just like yourself!

Sailing in Scotland - sounds wonderful - I was in the Highlands last year doing a virtual tour photo-shoot for MacDonald Hotels but we never got a chance to do any sailing - I hope some day to go back there as I would have liked to explore more.

I knew one Glen in the time I sailed with Salts but I don´t recognize the name Glen Kachmar. I haven´t sailed with SALTS since 1994, so there are a lot of new faces for me. I know all the skippers and all the old hands but lots has changed in the last - gosh almost a decade now.

The highlight of my sailing in Scotland was visiting St. Kilda (http://www.kilda.org.uk/ )...what a magical place!  As a cultural anthropology student I found the history fascinating and the landscapes there were very dramatic.  From what I´ve seen in pictures the islands in the South Pacific will be even more so...

I know that my friend Glenn was on the Swift when you rowed her into Victoria, (I saw your photo) and I´m pretty sure that that was the end of his two years on board.  

I´m excited about this tracking program that you´ve got going, it´ll be great to see where the boat is up until I join, and for my family and friends to see where I´m at when I´m away!  How long have you been doing this website?

Ah - then I probably wouldn´t have sailed with Glen - but see if he remembers someone throwing a can of black olives to Steve Kroker right before we started rowing them in ;)

From what I can see on the web site - I understand why you liked St. Kilda - looks amazing!

I´m pretty excited about the tracking program myself - it´s taking shape nicely and should be able to be used for other things as well - SALTS is even talking about posting all the previous offshore logs into it as well - so we can all look back at previous trips - and even see their plots.

For the upcoming offshore I´ll get the logs in their entirety after each leg - so once a leg is finished people will be able to look back and read the log - but it´s too expensive to transmit a log entry daily.

As for the site - I started it back in 1990 or so (it was my 2nd web site) - but there is very little left of what it was like then except the photo in the top left corner and the fact that the bosun´s call is part of the logo.

I do photography and web sites professionally now, so I´ve been able to add a lot of the modular database features I have developed for other customers to this site - it sure is nice to let it finally develop in all these ways though.

I forgot to mention that my friend Glenn is the cook for the Grace´s upcoming offshore trip as well, and has been crewing all summer long.  From your photos Sarah, it looks like you took a trip this summer...how was it?

Hey Adam!
Yes, I was on Trip 1 this sumer as the assistant cook. It was actually my 7th trip. It was amazing! Blue skies, and we even got to put the sails up a couple times! :)
