Martingale

1. A Stay which holds the jib-boom. it provides counterforce to the pull of the Fore Topmast or topgallant Mast stays and tuns from the outer tip of the jib-boom against the dolphin-striker and down to the Hull. Martingale guys Hold the dolphin-striker firm by running from the dolphin-striker Aft to either side of the Hull.

2. A Rope or strap which runs from a the Mainsail Boom of a Dinghy to the base of its Mast to prevent the Boom lifting - also known as a Kicking-strap or (in modern termanology) a Boom-vang
