Rake
1) The angle off the vertical describing the masts or funnels of a vessel.
2) Sometimes used to describe the angle off the vertical of the Bow or Stern of a vessel.
3) The operating of fireing a broadside down the length of an opposing vessel. Wooden warships weakest point was the Stern and should an enemy vessel manage to fire through the Stern "raking fire" there was no significant way to return fire.
