This setting is only available if the language module is installed.

Allows a single section within the content to be marked with either a known language or to be set to Any The content manager´s rendering engine then uses these to provide content to site visitors based on their language preference. Here is how it works:

First the system looks over the content to see if any of the sections match the visitor´s language preference. If it finds any that do it displays them and stops. If it doesn´t find any then it goes through again and returns any sections that would normally be displayed in English (the global default fall-back language) The important thing to note here is that if you put a single section on a page that has been set to Any then you have basically disabled the English Fall-back feature.

Example 1:
Section 1 = English
Section 2 = English
Section 3 = French
Section 4 = Any

Visitors browsing with a language preference of English would see:
Section 1
Section 2
Section 4

Visitors browsing with a language preference of French would see:
Section 3
Section 4

Visitors browsing with a language preference of Spanish would see:
Section 4

Example 2:
Section 1 = English
Section 2 = English
Section 3 = French
Section 4 = French

Visitors browsing with a language preference of English would see:
Section 1
Section 2

Visitors browsing with a language preference of French would see:
Section 3
Section 4

Visitors browsing with a language preference of Spanish would see:
Section 1
Section 2

In most cases the rule of thumb is to not use the Any setting unless you will be providing a specific message to the effect that the visitor´s language is not supported and you do not want them to see anything else.
